View Our ExpertsContent strategy is the execution, planning, and management of quality content across the company’s assets to acquire and retain consumers.
That said, you must have a clear, comprehensive job description to allure the best content strategist candidates that can optimize your campaign strategies and meet your KPIs.
This is where you make a first impression with prospective hires. In this section, write a concise paragraph about your company and what candidates can expect from working with your team.
Here are a few details you may include in your introduction:
Tip: While you want to excite the candidate with highlights of your company, refrain from painting an unrealistic picture of your company, otherwise, you may attract candidates for the wrong reasons.
Content strategists are responsible for planning, ideating, creating, and editing content across channels to deliver the company’s key objectives and address users’ needs.
Thus, your job description summary must communicate not only the above but also what a content strategist is specifically in your company. This portion is where you should include a few concise sentences about the role, and how this role fits into your team.
Clearly communicate why you are in need of someone to fill this role, and manage your candidates’ expectations. Hence, you must know what the content strategist's main function and purpose are in your company before writing this bit.
You must also include the role’s day-to-day deliverables under the responsibilities section, such as planning, creating, and optimizing content across multiple channels. These should be listed down preferably in bullet points.
Both the requirements and skills portion should be straightforward. For the requirements portion, list down the desired experiences, educational attainments, and major skill sets required for the role. Try to be as specific as possible.
You may simply list the technical skills required for the skills portion.
Lastly, make sure it doesn’t seem overwhelming and excessive, otherwise, it may repel candidates. Avoid jargon, abstract words, and unnecessary requirements. This part should provide clarity and understanding.
To entice candidates, it would be best to include the perks and benefits they’ll be receiving when working for you. Just make sure not to oversell your company and to always be truthful with this list.
The title that you decide to list for the position will attract different types of candidates. The Content Strategist role is championing the brand-oriented editorial direction for the blog, while roles like ‘Digital Brand Specialist’, ‘Marketing Data Analyst’, and ‘Social Media/Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Strategist’ may bring more specific but related skill sets to the table.
Digital Brand Specialists produce photos, videos, branding collaterals, infographics, and other related visual content that strengthens your brand’s storytelling strength. They may also take charge of the brand’s creative direction and messaging.
They may work with freelancers or a marketing team to produce the required assets for marketing purposes. These candidates are expected to be familiar with Adobe Suite.
Marketing Data Analysts are integral in leveraging content analytics to develop a marketing strategy and are in turn responsible for optimizing existing assets and producing sharper campaigns as a result. While a Content Strategist is responsible for ensuring the delivery of content assets, the Marketing Data Analyst’s role is more specific, in particular with the ability to derive the ROI on content production.
While a Content Strategist may be a more general role that produces content across all the company’s channels, Social Media or SEO Strategists would be more familiar with producing and editing content specific to those two areas. Social Media Strategists may also play a role in community management, and SEO Strategists may also hold SEO marketing responsibilities.
